Liping Dongxiang

Situated at the conflunce of Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi, Liping Dongxiang is a national scenic and historic interest zone named after Dong ethinic group. It contains five counties, ie., Liping, Congjiang, Rongjiang, Jinping and Tianzhu, with an area of 14, 800 sq km. It is well known for the picturesque natural scenery, drum towers, flower bridges, civilian residences of the Dong people, and other tourist attractions reflecting the Dong customs and lifestyle. The local people of Liping Dongxiang celebrate 65 ethinc festivals with over 1,000 participants for each festival every year, and the Group Song of Dong Ethnic Group, Pipa Song and Dong Opera have been included in the list of the national intangible cultural heritages. Dongxiang has been recommended by the UNESCO as on of the two best tourist routes in China, and is one of the 10 sacred lands of the global "return to nature, and return to original purity and simplicity" designated by the Native Culture Organization of the United Nations; and Dong Village in Zhaoxing was named one of the six most beautiful ancient towns in China.
