Shiqiao Village

About 17 km north of the county town of Danzhai, Shiqiao Village is a famous producer of the paper for traditional Chinese painting, with a long history of paper-making. Most of  the people in the village are engaged in making paper for traditional Chinese painting, and regard Cai Lun (the inventor of paper in ancient China) as their ancestor. Every year, they hold activities to commemorate Cai Lun. Shiqiao Village boasts the ancient paper-making procedures, best-preserved tools, the largest scale high-quality paper for traditional Chinese painting, and the primitive family workshops. The traditional paper-making techniques, which have been handed down generation by generation, have been included in the list of the national intangible cultural heritages.
