    Activities for today: Qingman Miao Village, Shiqiao Miao Village

    Set off from Guiyang in the morning to enjoy a day well spent on distinctive Miao villages in Kaili.

    Some 2.5 hours later, arrive at the entrance to Qingman Miao Village, where hospitable Miao people dress up and warmly greet you with the “road-block rice wine”, the most ceremonious ritual to welcome their distinguished guests from afar. With the joyful atmosphere, appreciate stilted wooden houses, discover interesting Miao folklores as well as see for yourself the ancient Miao handicrafts including weaving and embroidering.

    Travel then to Shiqiao Miao Village and take in its beautiful landscape of rice terraces, river valley and characteristic Miao buildings. You will also have the opportunity to see a demonstration of traditional papermaking, which has been handed down for generations since the Tang Dynasty.

    Finish your day with a comfortable transfer to Kaili and settle in your hotel for the night.

    Activities for today: Jidao Miao Village, Langde Miao Village, Datang Miao Village

    Relax over your breakfast in your hotel and then travel to Jidao Miao Village where people still cling to their primitive lifestyle and time-honored traditions. With a family visit in a traditional stilt house, you will get a full impression of locals’ traditional life. Also visit the Hundred-Year-Old Barn still in use today.

    Resume your journey to Langde Miao Village to admire its outstandingly preserved Miao culture. Old streets, stilted houses, waterwheels and Wind and Rain Bridge give you a glimpse into its ancient past. The steep cobbled paths will take you high up on the village where you get an incredible viewpoint on rural idyllic scenery. By fortune, you may catch girls in brilliant Miao costumes dancing and singing in the square.

    After that, go on your drive to Datang Miao Village located at the foot of towering Mt. Leigong, where you will be caught by local female’s unique short skirts and hairstyle of Tang dynasty. You can also explore the cobbled streets lined with closely packed barns rising above 3.5-4 meters above the water.

    Return to your hotel in Kaili for overnight.

    Today you will join in with local Miao villagers to attend the grand celebration of Miao festivals, a good opportunity to enjoy colorful traditional costumes, unique ethnic traditions and authentic local atmosphere.

    Shidong Sister’s Meal Festival
    Time: around April
    What’s on: About 48km northeast of Kaili, Shidong village is the best place to see Sister’s Meal Festival, a traditional Miao gathering for courtship. On the day, Miao girls dress up in their finest costumes and splendid silverwares, and offer "sisters' rice" to young man to express their love. Thus, it is dubbed as the Oriental Valentine's Day. Tourists can enjoy and participate in a host of entertainments like bullfighting, antiphonal singing, drum dance, folk performances, bonfire party, etc.

    Huangping Siyueba Festival
    Time: around May
    What’s on: Siyueba Festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth lunar calendar, when traditionally dressed Miao people congregate in Huangping town to worship the Miao heroes and pray for favorable weather. Festivities involve traditional sacrificial ceremony, antiphonal singing, and playing music instruments – Lusheng, horse racing, cock fighting, folk acrobatics, etc., creating an opportunity to enjoy diverse ethnic culture.

    Miao Dragon Boat Festival
    Time: around June
    What’s on: Drive to the bank of Qingshui River in Shidong ancient town to witness the Miao Dragon Boat Festival, which is marked with an exciting Dragon Boat Racing between Miao villages nearby. Apart from it, people hold a delightful range of folk activities to wish good luck and a bump harvest of the year, including Lusheng dance, drum dance and horse racing. Travellers can also seek out nice handicrafts and sweet souvenirs in nearby market filled with a humming festival atmosphere.

    Time: around November
    What’s on: The 3-day Lusheng Festival is one of the grandest festivals of Miao minority group, who celebrate it with Lusheng Dance, singing contest, bullfighting, horse racing as well as opportunity for Miao youngsters to court each other. The climax reaches as girls in beautiful costumes dance in a circle with the rhythms of Lusheng, filling the valley with happiness and joy. Just feel free to be part of it and indulge in the merry mood!

    Miao New Year
    Time: around December
    What’s on: It is the most important festival for the Miao people, and Leishan County as the carnival center is your best bet to experience the atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity. Several months before the festival, households will be engaged in preparing sumptuous Miao dishes and festival clothing. During the event, all the Miao people from villages far and near come together for the festival parade. You can see young Miao women, gorgeously bedecked with silver headdresses, perform drum dance, Lusheng dance and antiphonal singing. The fierce bull fighting is also a spectacle to be hold. Of course, you are more likely to enjoy a big feast of Long Table Banquet, a century-old tradition of Miao to entertain honored guests in festival.
